Goofin' Off With a Pre-Road-Trip Post

So this weekend is Labor Day weekend here in the U.S. I've mentioned before we have five weddings this summer for nieces and nephews. Well, number four happened last weekend down in Salt Lake City which we couldn't quite make. So this weekend the happy couple is having an "open house" in Vancouver, WA, so we'll be making a one-day road trip down and back. I'm looking forward to it. More on our plans down below.

I've got the center and first border on the Gingerbread Square Dance quilt. It's looking might tasty.

Gingerbread Square Dance With Center and First Border

I have a close up here so you can see all the tasty treats and gingerbread house on the focus fabric.

Close Up of Gingerbread Square Dance

I was able to stitch up another little section of Mickey and Pirate friends...just some more of Goofy's pirate hat. I apologize that I must have had a weird filter on when I took this picture. It's a little dark.

Mickey and Pirate Friends Cross Stitch as of 09/02/2017

And since I occasionally get requests for what this piece will look like when it's finished...and it's a new month so a good time for a reminder...here is what the finished stitched piece will look like.

Mickey and Pirate Friends

We're pretty excited to be headed today to celebrate wedding number four. When we asked what the dress code for the event would be, we were told it would be pretty casual. Blue jeans are perfectly acceptable. Yay! I'm thinking Mr. Goofin' Off and I should wear our special shoes.

Our Disney Vans

These shoes are our special occasion casual shoes. Mr. Goofin' Off has the Mickey shoes and mine are a pretty purple with Jasmine on them. I wanted to be sure you knew because Mr. Goofin' Off would be horrified if he had to wear shoes with a princess on them. No mix-ups here.

Road Trip Snacks Courtesy of Mr. Goofin' Off

Mr. Goofin' Off headed out the other evening to pick up some snacks for our road trip.  I think he thought we were driving cross country or something because there is no way we'll eat all of these in six hours of driving. That's one ginormous bag of Red Vines. Minnie does approve and thinks these snacks are pretty sweet.

Reading Material for the Road Trip

I gathered up some reading material for the road trip...a few of my Disney magazines. I should be all up to date at what's going on at Disney by the time we get back...and possibly a few pounds heavier.

So that's what the Goofin' Offs have going on this weekend. What are your plans? Will you be sewing, stitching, BBQ-ing? Let me know in the comments below.

  1. That sounds like a fun road trip and your shoes are the best! I'm so impressed with your cross-stitching - it looks complicated!

    1. Thank you! We love these shoes. We bought them a few years ago and only wear them on special occasions that have a "casual" attire dress code. The cross stitching isn't as complicated as it seems, it's just going to take a long time to finish. Have a great weekend! Andrea

    1. Linda, Since your DH is working this weekend, hopefully you are able to get some time in working on your projects. I keep watching Etsy for the pattern to pop up again, but so far I haven't seen it...just the one that has Mickey only. Thanks for dropping by and leaving a note! Andrea

  5. We lived in Kirkland and Mt. Vernon for 25 years and I miss the area so much, being in Wisconsin. but I'm so happy being with family. We also visited Disneyland a few times, the first was its second year open. Great memories, also of the Lady Washington. Thanks for showing the photos. Your quilt turned out well, a cute theme. The brown fabric looks like waffles. Do I see a food theme there also?

    1. Paula, We live just minutes from Kirkland. We've been in our house for over 20 years. Prior to that I've lived in Edmonds and Mountlake Terrace, so we know the area well. And, yes, the brown fabric has a waffle cone pattern to it...another food themed fabric. However, my next few quilts will be Toy Story themed. I'm looking forward to those ones and a change of fabric colors. Thanks for dropping by! Andrea

We had a rash of niece and nephew weddings a few years ago. This year it was a rash of babies we celebrated...well, that's not exactly what you call a group of babies but you get what I'm talking about! That means I made baby quilts for four new grand nephews born this year...well, one's not here yet.

    1. Thank you, Cathy! The shoes are so much fun. We want them to last, so we only wear them on special occasions. In addition to the weddings, we also have two grand nephews/nieces due within the next six months. I love being a part of such a large family. Thanks for dropping by! Andrea

  15. I have 3 high school graduation quilts to make this year for my nieces and nephews. Thank goodness they are all too young for wedding quilts right now! Not sure I will be able to keep up, but I love my big family. You should probably get started on baby quilts next!

  22. Five weddings on one summer ! Jeans sounds great for a wedding . Weddings here in the U.K. Still tend to be quite formal . People were shocked/surprised when I said I was wearing trousers and flat shoes to my sons wedding . I did wear a thing on my head though to balance it

    1. Some weddings are formal here in the U.S. while others are less so. The past few years we have seen a lot more themed weddings that are less formal. The wedding celebration was a lot of fun. Thank you for dropping by! Andrea
